Ina May Gaskin
It is a common misconception that doulas are only beneficial for those opting for all-natural (unmedicated) or home births. This is far from the truth. Doulas can provide invaluable support to anyone, regardless of their chosen birth plan or setting. I believe that everyone deserves the same opportunities for their birthing experience – to feel heard, respected, and prepared, regardless of their background or life path. My commitment is to offer unbiased encouragement and empowerment to you and your family throughout this journey.
There have been several studies performed that show having continuous support during labor can provide
With a Doula the amount of time you're supported during birth increases from 10% to 100%
I am committed to providing support to anyone navigating this significant life transition. If you prefer not to have someone physically present during labor, or if you feel you do not need extensive support, you do not have to go without assistance. I am available to offer virtual support through phone, video call, chat, email, or text throughout the entire process. Receive the support you need at a comfort level that suits you best.
During our prenatal visits, we will address your concerns regarding pregnancy and labor. I will provide evidence-based information on diet, exercise, and sleep during pregnancy, as well as the procedures, risks, and benefits associated with pain management and labor positions. Additionally, I will answer any questions you may have or refer you to appropriate resources if your inquiries fall outside the scope of my services. Finally, we will develop multiple birthing plans that reflect your desired experience while considering various possible scenarios.
I will be on-call and available to you 24/7 from 37 weeks until birth. During labor, I can either come to your home to assist in the early stages or meet you at the hospital when you are ready. My goal is to ensure your comfort and support your preferences throughout the labor process.
I am here to offer encouragement, help you advocate for your birthing preferences, and assist with position changes. My support includes everything from providing water or ice chips to offering massage, counter pressure, and helping you rest and breathe. If your birth plan changes, I will help you understand your options and ensure you are comfortable with any new procedures.
The support I provide as a doula doesn't end once your little one is born. I will stay by your side at the hospital until you are comfortably settled in your maternity room and your baby has had their first feeding, whether from a bottle or breast. I also provide a home visit at 2 weeks to go over basic infant care, share information on available programs and services, and answer any questions you may have. If you need additional support, I provide extended postpartum care on an hourly basis, offering personalized assistance as you heal and adapt to life with your newborn. My goal is to ensure you feel supported and confident during this special time.
